It is time for me to buy a camera
« on: October 12, 2009, 12:25:26 PM »
It is time for me to buy a camera
I will be needing one for a few reasons.

For the price of the camera I am thinking maybe 400 - 600 dollars.

Here I will list the uses for the camera I am planning on buying
and maybe someone could give me ideas
1) Sell products on Ebay
2) http://www.david-laserscanner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1016&start=0
    http://www.david-laserscanner.com/
I might use it for scanning
3) Posting pictures in forums like cerebralmeltdown.com
4) Taking pictures of people

Somone on another forum bought this few years ago and the pics were good
Sony MVC_FD97

So if you guys could give me ideas that would be good
Thanks

That free David Laser Scanning system looks neat, and if it's cheap it even neater.  I can imagine some people making homemade adjustable stands and guides for the handheld laser pointer also.

Here is a YouTube vid. of it:
Free DAVID 3D scanner

Extra.  You mentioned a camera:   http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/FD97/F97A.HTM   looks a bit old and bulky, but probably as good as it gets, but the price was a "bit high", about $900.  Probably good to look on ebay and get a 8 mega-pixel cam for about $100, look around, I dont have any links, but cams are a dime a dozen now.

Hi Jon
That video is really good.
I had an idea of how the process was but seeing the video made it more clear.
You see the benefits of sharing something.
Thanks

A webcam is ok, but I'm not sure if it's portable without a computer.  Many [update:  Many to Some] digital cameras today can be used as (streaming) webcams also.

Thanks for that I didnt know about it.
Today I received an advertising from dell.
Kodak c180 10.2mp digital camera bundle

http://shopping.ca.msn.com/prices/kodak-c180-10-2mp-digital-camera-bundle-with-kodak-black-leather-case-and-4gb-kingston-sd-card/itemid24128126/?itemtext=itemname:kodak-c180-10-2mp-digital-camera-bundle-with-kodak-black-leather-case-and-4gb-kingston-sd-card

I will call dell and ask them if this has streaming feature.

Ya, it's good to ask or do an internet search if a certain digital camera can abe used as a webcam, because I know someone who got a great deal on a HD digital video/still camera, and it didnt have the webcam feature, but it wasn't a big loss since they didn't have much use for a webcam.  I think I sean that cam doing a quick search, and I think it's the Kodac Easyshare type, and I think it might not have webcam function, but it was going for about $80 only on one website.  I think the picture file format is .JPG, and if I ever see one that .BMP, and cheap I will try to get that since .JPG has less colors in order to reduce the filesize of the picture so that many can be saved on a memory card.

Jon I like the idea of a digital camera that can be used as web cam
I just went to my local costco  they had digital cameras but they didnt have the kind that could also be used as a web cam.
If anyone has names of these cameras maybe you could give us the link
Thanks

This is supposed to be webcam ready:   Fuji Finepix S7000, but it's a larger lens type than most of the pocket size today.  I read that just getting a cheap webcam for 20 dollars is the way to go.

Hi Jon
That is the best idea so far.
I will buy a 20 dollar camera that will take care of my picture taking needs
Who needs to spend 900 dolars
Thanks
