Small printable pan tile mechanism for 28BYJ-48 motors
« on: April 07, 2015, 04:51:39 AM »
I just got to the "pretty good" point with my pan tilt mechanism so I figured I would post it here. It uses those cheap stepper motors, but is far simpler and way easier to print than the other design here. I just posted it to Thingiverse. I will probably remake it to be smaller, and possibly change the Y axis to a linear actuator. Note that the motors have almost no torque when driven at their rated 5 volts, so I'm working on driving them at 12 for short bursts.

Hey Zimirken,

I've love to get my hands on this print and try it out - I may have to download it and try printing at the local makerspace, since I don't have 3d printer as of yet.  I like that you're using these cheap, small motors.  I've only played with them a briefly, but was impressed by their torque and low cost; I'm actually surprised you have to use more than 5 volts to get them to work.  I modified mine to increase torque as per this video:

They seemed like they would be strong enough to move a fairly large mirror....

Good work, and thanks for sharing!

Cheers,

Paul

Looking pretty slick!
It will be cool to see it once it's up and tracking.
